Festival of Lights Pageant
The East Peoria Festival of Lights Pageant Chair Jennifer Cowen, along with five past Festival of Lights Queens and the 2025 Little Princess, recently gathered for a heartfelt visit with Jan Bohr, founder of the East Peoria Festival of Lights Queen Pageant.
The visit was an opportunity to honor the woman whose vision created a program that has empowered young women in the East Peoria community for decades. Stories, memories, and laughter filled the afternoon with reflection on how the program has impacted their lives through leadership, service, confidence, and lifelong friendships.
2022 Queen Magge Cowen, 2023 Queen Jenessa Brown, 2024 Queen Annabel Pulling, 2025 Queen Amira Dvorak, 2025 Little Princess Zianna Ngiriabiochel and 1988 Queen Tiffany Denniston all attended. Tiffany was originally crowned by Jan in 1988 and recalled the memories fondly, even sharing newspaper clippings from the year and cards she received regarding the pageant.
All of the Festival of Lights royalty, along with Jennifer Cowen, thanked Bohr for establishing a tradition that continues to inspire new generations of young women. The Festival of Lights Pageant has been a cherished part of the festival since 1986, providing scholarship opportunities and ambassadors who represent East Peoria throughout the year.
The gathering served as a reminder that while crowns and titles may change each year, the values of community, service, and tradition remain constant. As preparations continue for another pageant season, the group was grateful for the chance to recognize the woman whose dedication laid the foundation for a program that continues to shine as brightly as the Festival of Lights itself.
This year we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the pageant’s founding. Make sure to follow us through Instagram or Facebook, where we will post our contestants and information on how you can attend in the future!
