This May, we are excited to feature our Veterans Park located at 403 Springfield Road as our Park of the Month. If you have ever driven past Veterans Park, you might have noticed that the sign reads, “Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2078, Fon du Lac Park District.” This park was originally named Fon du Lac Park East and was officially renamed to Veterans Park in March of 1990. Inside the park you will find a 1954 Carriage Howitzer 155mm with a dedication plaque that reads “This Park is dedicated by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2078 to all American Veterans of All Wars.”

Veterans Park is also home to three rentable shelters, Middle Shelter, Veterans Shelter, and Grieves Shelter, two baseball diamonds, several playgrounds, Fondulac Golf Course, at Christmas time the Festival of Lights, and a little Lincoln Elementary School Library Corner filled with fun books located near the entrance.

Did you know that many of Fon du Lac Park District’s family friendly community events occupy Veterans Park and are free to the public? If not, now you do. The year kicks off at Middle Shelter with our annual Easter Egg Hunt held the weekend before Easter. This year we had over 10,000 eggs, nine golden egg basket winners, and two grand prize winners. Our next upcoming event is Swing into Summer held on Saturday, June 6th with free inflatables by Fun on the Run and The Sandlot at dusk. There will also be special guests that you can purchase dinner and sweet treats from.

We will also have three Flashback Flicks at Grieves Shelter, Shrek on June 27th, Finding Nemo on August 29th, and Toy Story on October 3rd. Each movie starts at dusk and is free to the public.

In just a few months, our summer send-off will be located at Middle Shelter on August 15th. This year we are having a Foam Fiesta and bringing back the popular foam cannons, inflatables, and waterslides.

Our last big event, Trucks and Trades, is September 26th at Veterans Park with big trucks, cool tools, and kid friendly hands-on fun.

Lots of fun and memories are made inside of Veterans Park. Whether it be playing or watching a ball game, a special gathering at one of the rentable shelters, children playing on the playgrounds, driving through the Festival of Lights, attending a community event, or taking a stroll in the park when the weather is nice, there is something for all to do. We encourage you to visit this month and experience everything Veterans Park has to offer.
