Food and stories connect us to our family, culture, economy, and ecology. Plant a Seed, Read is an all-ages summer reading program rooted in the concept of farm to table. A farm grows food that nourishes our bodies; a library grows ideas that nourish our minds. Plant a Seed, Read looks at the library as a community table where, instead of food, we feast on ideas.

Engaging programs are scheduled for all ages and include opportunities for exploring culture, history, science, health, and human connection. Enjoy family favorites like field trips, movies, and storytimes, as well as a lineup of exciting presenters to share animals, magic, music, and summer fun!

In June and July, registrants can earn badges and prizes for reading and for attending library events. Challenge finishers are entered into raffles for special prizes, including games, gift cards, packages from local businesses, and more! Aside from all the fun, summer reading is especially important for preventing the “summer slide” so students don’t fall behind before returning to school in August. Summer readers can register and track progress online at fondulaclibrary.beanstack.org, with the Beanstack app, or on a reading log from the library. Visit fondulaclibrary.org for event registration and details, and follow FDL on social media for more updates and summer surprises!

We CAN Feed EP! Summer Community Project

You CAN make a difference! Visit our Youth Services Department in June and July and donate CANS of food for the East Peoria Food Pantry, which will distribute them to families in need right here in our community. Cans only, please! The library is unable to accept damaged, expired, and fresh food or food in boxes, jars, bags, etc.

To donate unexpired and undamaged items that the library isn’t accepting as part of this canned food drive, contact the First United Methodist Church of East Peoria office at (309) 699-5417.

Music in the Park Returns

Sponsored by the Friends of Fondulac District Library, the library’s Music in the Park series returns on the first and third Thursdays of June through August from 6:30 to 7:30pm at Levee Park stage. The community is invited to enjoy a wide variety of family-friendly live music. Attendees are encouraged to support nearby restaurants and businesses and bring dinner or snacks, as well as lawn chairs and picnic blankets, to the events.

With all featured acts based in central Illinois, the 2026 lineup includes:

June 4: Emily the Band (indie alt-pop anthems)
June 18: Dennis Glavin (acoustic)
July 2: James Herr Duo (classic songwriters tribute)
July 16: Black Velvet (pop & rock)
August 6: Now and Zen (classic & contemporary hits)
