Park of the Month
This March, we are excited to feature our Administration Building Park as our Park of the Month. Located at 201 Veterans Drive in East Peoria, this community favorite is easy to spot thanks to its iconic Train Caboose — a landmark many of you know and love.
When you visit the Park at the Administration Building, you’ll find something for everyone in your family. Kids can climb, slide, and explore on the playground while you relax nearby. The pavilion offers a shaded space where you can enjoy a picnic lunch, celebrate a birthday, or simply gather with friends. With open grassy spaces surrounding the park, there’s plenty of room to toss a ball, play tag, or enjoy a laid-back afternoon outdoors. The parking lot also features a couple of basketball hoops, making it easy for you to shoot around, play a quick pickup game, or practice your free throws.
If you’re looking to stay active, the Outdoor Fitness Court is a must-try. Installed in 2024 in partnership with National Fitness Campaign and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, this state-of-the-art space is designed for all fitness levels. You can complete a full-body workout in as little as seven minutes, or take your time moving through the stations at your own pace. The equipment and guided exercises make it easy for you to build strength, improve balance, and boost your overall wellness — all outdoors. It also has a studio side, perfect for hosting an outdoor yoga or dance class.
The park also connects directly to the River Trail, a scenic 4.8-mile path that follows the former Illinois Terminal Railroad Co. corridor. Built in 1991 through a matching grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the trail has become a treasured part of our community. Whether you prefer walking, jogging, or biking, you can enjoy scenic views and a smooth, paved route perfect for getting outside and staying active.
The Park at our Administration Building truly brings together recreation, wellness, and local history in one convenient location. Whether you are planning a family picnic, fitting in a workout, or heading out for a ride along the River Trail, we encourage you to visit this month and experience everything this park has to offer.
