City of East Peoria Declares Participation in Honor of The Nation’s 250th Anniversary
The City of East Peoria has officially proclaimed they will be participating in Illinois America250 to recognize the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
Resolution no.2526-065, signed by Mayor John P. Kahl on October 21st, affirms the City of East Peoria’s pride in participating as part of Illinois America250, a statewide initiative encouraging communities to reflect on America’s past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future.
The City of East Peoria will begin brainstorming ways it can celebrate in 2026. Planned activities for the community will be created to recognize the America250 commemoration. The City is proud to be part of this campaign, joining municipalities across the state in lifting up local history, people, and traditions as part of this once-in-a-generation celebration.
The Illinois Municipal League has launched the IML America250 Time Capsule Project. This initiative invites municipalities of all sizes to contribute meaningful items that capture the spirit of their communities. Photographs, proclamations, local histories, lapel pins, letters, and other symbolic items will together represent the diversity and strength of Illinois’ cities, villages, and towns.
The time capsule will be buried on the grounds of the IML office in Springfield, with directions for it to be opened in 50 years, on July 4, 2076, during the nation’s 300th anniversary. The City of East Peoria has sent off two lapel pins, one pin displaying the old logo and one pin displaying the new logo. This contribution represents the pride and growth of the East Peoria community.
