Letter From the Mayor, John Kahl
The City Council recently adopted the East Peoria 2045 Comprehensive Plan. The City’s Comprehensive Plan is a foundational document that is critical to shaping our city’s future. Within this long-range planning document, you will find a shared vision for a stronger, more vibrant, and sustainable community for all residents. It serves as a guiding document for the growth and progress of our community.
The Comprehensive Plan encompasses a broad range of objectives and key results, such as existing and future land use, transportation, housing, economic development, zoning, and recreation and tourism. It outlines the challenges we face and the opportunities that await us.
In crafting this plan, stakeholders were engaged from various sectors, to include our residents, local businesses, civic organizations, educational institutions, private partners, planning and zoning, and government. The valuable insights, ideas and feedback from these stakeholders played an integral role in this process and were vital to ensuring that the Comprehensive Plan truly reflects the aspirations and needs of our community as a whole.
The City of East Peoria has already achieved a few of its short-term goals during the course of drafting the Comprehensive Plan over a nearly two-year period and is now positioned to focus on achieving some of its long-range goals as outlined within the Comprehensive Plan. To be successful, we ask for the support of our residents, municipal neighbors, civic organizations, private partners, and leaders across sectors including business and government.
Thank you to those who contributed to the planning and successful completion and adoption of the East Peoria 2045 Comprehensive Plan. Together, we have identified the key areas where we can prosper and thrive. Now that we have set forth a shared vision and goals for our city’s future, let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work.
Always grateful,
John
