75th Anniversary of the Korean War
A crowd of over 80 gathered at the Tazewell County Courthouse on June 25th to honor and recognize the surviving Korean War Veterans on the 75th Anniversary of the Korean War. Eight Korean War Veterans, ranging from 92 to 97 years old, were in attendance with four representing the US Marines, two from the US Army, and two from the US Air Force.
Organized by Tazewell County Clerk & Recorder of Deeds, John C. Ackerman, and Tazewell County Veterans Assistance Commission Director, Steve Saal, on behalf of Tazewell County Government, the event featured short prepared remarks followed by remarks by the eight Korean War Veterans in attendance. At the conclusion of the service, the Korean War Veterans placed a wreath at the Korean War Memorial at the Tazewell County Courthouse, twin M1 57mm Anti-Tank Cannons at the Court Street Entrance.
The citizens of Tazewell County thank our Korean War Veterans for their contribution of time, talent, and treasury in defense of the freedom we all appreciate today.
